Out in the middle of the ocean, Reunion Island has exceptionally well-preserved lagoon, with something for everyone: pure relaxation on the beach, scuba-diving into the depths, or even whale watching. The Volcanic island surged forth from the ocean depths around three million years ago. The Piton de la Fournaise, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, has shaped the landscape and during some lava flows, even extends the island’s surface area out of the sea.
