TOUR DESCRIPTIONS:

For the Volcano

Pick up at 7h00

The fresh air in the morning will be quickly replaced by the natural heat from the volcano sites.

The Route du Littral from the West will unveil the placid shores against the steep cliffs up to Saint-Pierre.

Here begins the uphills to the plateau of Plaine des Cafres, and the Grande Ferme.

Heather, gentian, villages, pastures, cows, forests, will be the scenery until the “Nez de Bœuf” at 2070 m.

From here extends a confusing valley; 22km of geological surprises.

The gaping hole in the Commerson crater is adorned with as many rocks as question marks.

This amphitheater dreamed by geologists announced the beginnings of even more surprising discoveries.

The peak of the day will be at 2360m above sea level.

Back at 18h00

For Cilaos:

Pick up time at 07h00 or 07h30, South West.

The first stop is at Saint-Leu, where you will witness the intriguing aspect of “Souffleur” (the blower).
The trip then leads to Saint-Louis, with its factories, the mosque, the hindu temples and the church.
We then leave the highway to go uphill, towards the mountains.

After going through the French quarters of Saint-Louis and its traditional Creole houses and french gardens, the famous road to Cilaos with 400 turns begins. Breath-taking landscapes. The particularity of this site waves off any kind of apprehension and the way uphills is done easily and comfortably.

The symmetrical tunnels and majestic Peter Both, the weird village of Palmiste Rouge, vertiginous valleys and the green landscapes will make you forget where you are.
Welcome to Cilaos at an altitude of 1 300m. Spa city, Sports city or agricultural city, where some of the best vineyards of France come from.

The view from the stop of “la Roche Merveilleuse” dominates all the Cirque and beats up all the known cliches of this region. After visiting the artisanal workshop “Jours de Cilaos” and after a nice traditional lunch, we will go back on the “Route du Littoral” (coastal road).
A last stop will be at “l’Etang-Salé” to visit “Le Gouffre” (The Pit); another surprise of nature around which many stories were told.

Back to the hotel at 17h00.

For Salazie:

Departure from the hotel in Saint Gilles area : 07:30 , return around 5 p.m.
Daily Tour to Salazie, a world of quietness, waterfalls and bananas
On the East Cost, we will take the road that leads to the most verdant cirque of the island . Rocks faces of the mountains are covered with heady waterfalls; the most famous is the ‘Voile de la Mariée’. You will discover the lushes vegetation , watercress beds, banana plantations, surrounded by green mountains before reaching Hellbourg.
In this small village, that you can call an open air museum of architecture, old houses that used to belong to some of the greatest local families are witnesses of a glorious past .
A walk in Hellbourg gives you the opportunity to catch some of the local atmosphere , before having a traditional lunch in a creol restaurant ( drinks included )
In the afternoon you will visit the Vanilla Plantation : On their property, the family continues to cultivate and prepare the best vanilla of the world, and they will teach you the way to make this orchid such a flavouring spice .
Drive back to you hotel, passing by Saint Denis
